My Life as a Writer, Continued
Sometimes, working away from home involves going to a local high-end supermarket that has tables outside. I love this place. Here I am on September 9, 2016 proofreading my typewritten manuscript of my novelBernie and the Hermit.
After proofreading the typewritten manuscript of my novel Bernie and the Hermit, I continue writing longhand and keep the story going, as I combine working at home and creating in a public place. Somehow the book gets written as the change of venue keeps me motivated and alert.
October 5, 2018, publication day for The Martin Luther King Mitzvah, and here I am with the hardcover at the same supermarket, where I sometimes do my writing at these outdoor tables.
My essay on John Burroughs posted on North American Review Blog 7/9/18
I visited Woodchuck Lodge and Slabsides on the same day back in 2009. Fortunate enough to have this prestigious literary magazine post my essay on that event. Thanks to editor Jeremy Shraffenberger of the North American Review for the opportunity.

Photographer James Lee Stern captures my reflection
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Auditorium at the Santa Monica Public Library has a photograph of MLK and Jim just caught my reflection with The Big Man. Quite a neat moment. I’m glad I was holding the book.
Adam Sandler, Me, and The Martin Luther King Mitzvah
It’s the Jewish New Year today, and what could be more amazing than to have the great Adam Sandler pose with me and THE MARTIN LUTHER KING MITZVAH, in a nice photo taken by Adam’s daughter Sadie. I named my character in the novel after Adam, because as I was writing the book a couple of years ago, I became acquainted with Adam, and he inspired me to write a fairy tale in which the underdog emerges victorious, a theme to which Sandler has returned time and time again. Thanks to the Sandler family and Happy New Year to all.
